Lost Your Way? A Life Coach’s 7-Step Roadmap to Rediscover Your Purpose
Greetings 4am Wellness Crew.
The Challenge
Are you feeling overwhelmed by life's demands and lacking balance?
Can’t shake the feeling that you are not living up to your potential?
Are you struggling with self-doubt and limiting beliefs that are holding you back?
Have you lost sight of your core values and true life's purpose?
The audacity of we Homo sapiens to demand hope and tranquility, purpose and contentment, empowerment and life balance. Whether resident in a stony suburb or hunkering down in a war zone, isolated during a pandemic, or cut off in a refugee camp, the human spirit aches for peace, purpose, and well-being. In the realms of politics, policy, and our personal space, we should, with empathetic vigor, be committed to this deserving demand; a purposeful and fulfilling life. Your Best Self!
We as Life Coaches are part of that formal and informal network of empathy, care, and empowerment - a village embracing the humanity of all without ignoring the individuality in all. Embracing and consoling, empowering and accepting, listening and appreciating. That safe and non-judgmental space to exhale, to be still, to be heard, to heal, to self-discovery, to restore, to start over, to …
Are you experiencing that moment, meeting, or day when the feeling of dread fills you - the realization that you might be trapped in a cycle of stagnation? You are not alone. Are you unsure about your next steps in life? You are not alone. Does it seem like you have lost your sense of direction and purpose? You are not alone. Hope is not lost, just momentarily obscured.
But there is good news! A proven and powerful resource is available that can help you regain clarity, authenticity, balance, and fulfillment in your life, and that resource is a Life Coach. By working with a skilled Life Coach, you can benefit from having a personal mentor, strategist, and accountability partner who can guide you toward rediscovering your authentic path.
What is a Life Coach?
Unlike psychologists or therapists who diagnose and treat mental health conditions, life coaches take a proactive, holistic approach and provide supportive partnerships to help individuals identify and achieve their personal and professional goals.
Life coaches use evidence-based techniques to help clients develop self-awareness, overcome limiting beliefs, optimize their mindset, and take purposeful action steps. Our goal is (pretty) straightforward - to empower you with the tools and strategies to improve your life based on your vision and values.
What a Life Coach is Not
It is important to understand that Life Coaches are not counselors, nor are they meant to substitute professional mental healthcare. We cannot treat clinical conditions like depression, anxiety disorders, etc.
A life coach will not simply give you all the answers or a quick-fix solution. Instead, they act as your partner and mirror, guiding you to uncover your insights and motivation and resolve to create transformational change.
If you are tired of feeling lost and adrift and are ready to reclaim your purpose and passion, here is a Life Coach's 7-step roadmap to get you back on track.
Step 1. Get Crystal Clear on Your Vision
Before creating an effective action plan, you must first understand what you want to achieve. A life coach will help you articulate your overarching goals and deepest desires for how you want to live.
Exercise: Write a detailed description of your ideal life situation in all areas - career, relationships, health, personal growth, etc. Dream big and do not censor yourself! You deserve it!
Step 2. Uncover Your Core Values.
Our core values are the fundamental beliefs and ideals that guide our behaviors and decisions. When we do not live in alignment with our values, we feel disconnected, inauthentic, and miserable. A life coach can help you identify your key values.
Exercise: Identify 5-7 core values such as honesty, creativity, family, learning, loyalty, friendship, and gratitude. Reflect on how well your daily life aligns with these values.
Step 3. Face Your Limiting Beliefs and Fears.
We all harbor deep-seated fears, doubts, and unhelpful thought patterns that can undermine our ability to make the changes we desire. A Life Coach will assist in identifying your limiting beliefs and devising strategies to reframe them.
Exercise: Create a list of fears or negative self-talk that typically arises when you are working towards your goals., such as, "I'm not good enough," "It's too late for me," or "I'll never be able to afford it”
Step 4. Leverage Your Unique Strengths.
You will achieve greater success when you build upon your natural talents and capabilities rather than trying to force-fit yourself into an ill-suited mold. A life coach specializes in identifying and maximizing your distinct gifts.
Exercise: Reflect on times in your life when you felt energized and "in the zone." Consider what activities you were engaged in, the strengths you were utilizing, and how you can further develop those strengths.
Step 5. Design a Purposeful Action Plan.
This is where your vision truly begins to take shape. With the expert guidance of your life coach, you will define specific goals, milestones, and consistent actions needed to manifest your balanced and fulfilling life.
Exercise: Break down your overarching vision into measurable short and long-term goals across different life areas, and identify the crucial next steps to start taking purposeful action.
Step 6. Adopt a Success Mindset.
Having a life coach means you have your very own mindset coach and accountability partner. They will share strategies to reframe limiting beliefs, cultivate resilience, and maintain motivation.
Exercise: What is one "small" mindset win you could achieve this week? This could include starting a gratitude practice, repeating daily affirmations, or visualizing your success.
Step 7. Embrace a Lifelong Growth Mindset.
The coaching process is a continuous journey towards self-actualization. Your Life Coach will equip you with lifelong skills for self-coaching and a growth mindset.
Exercise: Identify 1-2 areas (of your life) where you tend to get stuck in a rut or complacent mindset. These could be different aspects of your life, such as your career, health/fitness, relationships, creativity, etc.
Action It!
Go ahead and gift yourself permission to dare to believe. Hold audacity’s hand and level up to deserving wellness wealth. Thrive!
