How to Boost Your Well-Being by Putting Yourself First
Greetings 4am Fitness Crew.
Begin this morning by prioritizing you. It is very easy – almost intuitive to begin the day by pulling those closest to you into this 4am sacred space. This, your 4am Sanctuary of Serenity.
You are a mom, and you are entering your 4am Sanctuary of Serenity with your kids – their homework, teacher conferences, soccer practice. You are a single dad, who is co-parenting, and holding down two jobs. You are entering your 4am Sanctuary of Serenity emotionally exhausted just thinking about what awaits you after you exit this space. We are pulling spouses and partners and bosses and situations and … into our 4am Sanctuary of Serenity. It is getting crowded. It is getting deafening. It is getting emotionally messy.
You are a giving and caring person. You are sincere in your quest to be the best partner to your spouse, the best parent to your kids, the best boss to your employees and still give back to the community that you care so much for. You embrace the joys and sorrows of those closest to you. From your kind soul flows empathy and love. You are the antithesis of the narcissistic noise that plagues our society. But …
Your soul’s cistern must be cleansed and replenished, you cannot continue to run on emotional fumes, or you risk infecting yourself and those who depend on the purity, clarity, and serenity that flows from you.
The following simple actions will prepare you to refill, replenish, and cleanse your wellness space.
Leave your phone on airplane mode
Our mobile phones are symbolic of the constant noise that distracts us, deafens us, disparages us, and depreciates us. Putting your phone on airplane mode this morning is a bold and brave statement; I want to hear MY VOICE first thing this morning. I am worthy to be heard. My voice is beautiful and uplifting, and empowering. My voice is non-judgmental and accepting. Celebrate your voice.
This silence, this stillness allows (us) the space to gently pull together our spirit, mind, and body into a harmonious rhythm. A rhythm that leads to mindfulness, self-awareness, and calm.
Be emotionally open to the rich offerings that quietude gifts us. Enter this stillness, this tranquility with expectancy. It is the 13th-century philosopher Rumi who reminds us; “Listen to silence it has so much to say.”
Meditate
Meditation, ah, where do I even begin to describe the serene oasis it brings to my chaotic world? A world that can be “loud” even at 4am - but meditation gently pulls me into that sacred and still space. Picture this: a tranquil setting, where time slows down and the outside noise fades away into a distant hum. With each gentle inhale, my body relaxes, and as I slowly exhale, all the tension and stress melt away, like a river finding its way to the ocean. Meditation, my dear 4am Crew, is not just an escape; it is the gateway to a healthier mind, body, and soul. My holistic health redeemed. In those precious moments, my thoughts become still, making room for clarity and self-awareness. It's as if I'm peering into the deepest corners of my being, discovering a newfound sense of calm and contentment that radiates from within. The rhythm of my breath whispers secrets of tranquility, while my mind dances to the melody of serenity. They say wellness comes from within, and so, I dive deep into the realm of meditation, where I find solace, balance, and the pure joy of simply existing in the present moment. Mindfullness.
In this space of uplifting and embracing stillness the proclivity to emotionally drift is ever present, and with mindfulness, I gently tap myself back into focus with this David M. Bader quote: “Be here now. Be somewhere later. Is that so complicated?” We are here now, in this unhurried and peaceful space. Joyfully embrace the moment.
There is no right or wrong way to meditate – simply your way. Whether you call it meditation or prayer, what matters is, the journey must lead to self-awareness, clarity, and calm.
Define you
In this calm, unhurried, and reassuring space, intentionally define your day.
Picture yourself 4am Crew in a serene haven, where time slows down and tranquility washes over you like a gentle wave. Here, you have the power to shape the course of your day, mindfully, consciously, and deliberately. It's not about being self-centered, but rather about embracing self-empowerment and proactive self-care. Define your day around you.
