The Challenge

Whether it’s the anticipatory space of 4am or the exhaustion  space of 4pm, some days, “seasons’” and moments leave us emotionally depleted and dazed, frantically and futilely searching for our “superpower.” Real and imagined enemies have stolen our superpower cape – the labyrinth of burnout, perplexing setbacks, and the relentless tide of daily stressors, the obvious villains - mercilessly throwing curveballs faster than we can swing.

Phew … Trust me, you’re not alone. We’ve all been there.

However, there is hope. What if you already possess the tools not simply to react but to also intentionally reshape your reality with unshakable confidence? Imagine having a secret cache; a mental toolkit that could transform those moments of "I can't" into "Just watch me." Wow … Empowering Emancipating Confidence! Sounds too good to be true. What is Reframing?

Reframing intentionally is a cognitive technique that involves consciously shifting our perspective on a situation, thought, or experience. This evidence-based practice, rooted in cognitive-behavioral therapy, allows us to view challenges – from the deeply traumatic to the mildly irritative -  through a more constructive lens, fostering our resilience and emotional well-being.

Sounds familiar? It should, because most of us practice reframing daily – though not consciously or intentionally – and that space – consciously and with intention is where the most profound and protracted benefits reside.

Example of Reframing:

Sarah is a high-powered executive who's been working 70-hour weeks for months. She finds herself thinking, "I'm completely overwhelmed. If I can't handle this workload, I'm a failure."

Using cognitive reframing, Sarah could shift this thought to: "I'm feeling challenged because I've been pushing myself to excel. This pressure is a sign that I'm committed to my work, but it's also a cue to reassess my priorities and establish healthier boundaries."

This reframe acknowledges Sarah's dedication while recognizing the need for balance. It transforms a self-defeating thought into an opportunity for growth and self-care, helping to alleviate burnout and boost confidence in her ability to navigate professional challenges.

What are Affirmations?

Affirmations have been a powerful wellness tool used by people throughout history. These positive, present-tense statements are intended to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging thoughts. How? When practiced consistently these powerful declarations can rewire neural pathways, boost self-esteem, and bring about positive change in our lives.

Similar to reframing, we often unconsciously utilize this beneficial tool – affirmations. However, our focus here is practicing affirmations intentionally – (because) when employed (consistently), affirmations can be transformative to our mental and physical health. Some of its benefits are:

  • Effective in relieving stress.

  • Effective in coping with hypertension

  • Effective in relieving anxiety

  • Effective in promoting immunity

  • Improves mental health                                               

  • Improves physical health
